Welcome to Morrisville State College and the Computer Information Technologies Department. Morrisville has always been at the leading edge of technology becoming one of the first colleges to implement a campus wide wireless solution. The pace at which technology changes is startling but at Morrisville you will receive hands-on technical training as well as the leverage needed to succeed in an industry setting.

I came to Morrisville State College as a student in the Computer Information Systems degree program. I obtained hands-on experience in developing practical computer programming and applications skills. I also worked in many areas of computer hardware and several different areas in the field of network technology. Before joining the CIT faculty, I worked for a large utility services company as well as Morrisville’s Technology Services Department. This industry experience brings a lot of practical knowledge into the classroom.

Computers and telecommunications networks are revolutionizing nearly every aspect of our lives. There is hardly a business or an organization that has not already been deeply affected by the onset of the information age. The pace of technological change is accelerating, and some technologies that seemed unachievable just a couple of years ago are now on the verge of being made obsolete by the latest developments.

Here at Morrisville State College, you will find that our CIT Department is a wonderful place where you will learn about and experience the latest in information technology. As a Morrisville State College student, you will learn about cutting-edge technologies both in the classroom and with hands-on laboratory experience.

I came to Morrisville State College because of the school’s strong commitment to keeping up with technological innovation. I am thrilled by the wireless access to the campus network, a feature that you will enjoy with your laptop computer. Wireless has been the primary focus of my career in the telecommunications industry. Before joining the CIT faculty, I worked for several wireless common carriers including NationPage, Vanguard Cellular Systems, AT&T Wireless, and most recently Metrocall.

Please plan to visit us and learn more about why Morrisville State College is a wonderful place to prepare to be a skilled worker in the information age. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Being a new faculty member in the CIT department, I was very impressed by the laptop curriculum at Morrisville State College. Here at Morrisville, a laptop computer is no longer a luxury item. Various up-to-date application software packages that are used by major businesses are at your fingertips. I was also stunned by the speed of its new program development, the dedication of the faculty members, the job performance of the student interns, and the job opportunities that the graduates are earning. I am extremely excited to be part of all of this.

As a software engineer of many years, I love to share my industry experience with people who are eager to learn and succeed. I am inviting you to share the excitment with all of us as well as to enjoy the learning experience at the CIT department.

As one of the newest faculty members in the CIT Department, I am extremely excited about the opportunities and direction of the CIT programs here at Morrisville State College. Using state-of-the-art facilities and complete immersion in the "Laptop University" program, we are able to simulate many of the day-to-day activities of a major Fortune 500 company.

Courses are designed to reflect the latest technologies that are in use today and those that will be in use many years from now. Topics cover everything from networking technologies, application design and delivery, project management, Web development and databases all deployed in a multiple operating system environment.

As a graduate of a SUNY school myself, I know the focus is on learning by doing. Here at Morrisville, the student will not only learn the concepts but also learn how to apply them to solve many real world problems. SUNY schools in general enjoy an earned reputation for developing students who cannot only talk about technology, but actually apply it. This integration between technology, processes and people will give the Morrisville graduate exposure to real-world problems and situations and ultimately, this will provide a significant edge when entering the job marketplace.

Much of these benefits at Morrisville are the direct result of the real-world experiences of the CIT faculty. All of the dedicated, full-time faculty members have significant experience in industry and courses are specifically designed to take advantage of this. Prior to coming to Morrisville, I was Director of Global Product Development for an international telecommunications firm and have more than 13 years industry experience working with a number of Fortune 50 companies and also the government. Other job titles I have held include senior manager, senior engineer, systems analyst, lead programmer, Web developer, and leading member of a global technical help desk.

Morrisville is a truly exciting place to be and we look forward to seeing you. Feel free to contact me regarding the IT, CIS, and CST programs or the Admissions Department directly (800-258-0111) if you have any questions.

Professor Ken Patterson (Department Chair)

Welcome to Morrisville State College and to the Computer Information Technologies (CIT) Department. We have been the best kept secret in the SUNY system! This is rapidly changing as the department grows and our students succeed and you can be an integral part of this transition.

Since you have taken the time to look up this Web page here at Morrisville, let me share my thoughts about what you will experience here. Without a doubt the computer arena is one of the most dynamic fields of study you will encounter in education. What you experience today will be totally different from what will be “cutting edge” a year from now. Do you want to learn from people who have “been there and done that?” Do you enjoy a challenge? Do you like to learn the very latest in what technology has to offer? Do you like the freedom that the wireless revolution here at Morrisville can offer you? Definitely set or unsure of what you really want to do?

If you answered yes to any or many of those questions then listen up! Everyone in this department brings outside “real-world” experiences to the classroom. I previously taught Physics and Chemistry, retired from the US Navy as a Commander in Naval Intelligence, retired from the utility industry after 17 years in engineering, project management and information systems. Is this unique? Yes! I believe you will agree with me that it is, after you have an opportunity to share with us your educational endeavors. Our task is to not only train you in the educational aspects of Information Technology, but to prepare you to take this knowledge and apply it to actual situations you will encounter when you reach that “right of passage” to the money making work world. To make your experience worthwhile, we strive to provide you with a challenging curriculum and the appropriate toolsets you will need to be successful when you leave here. To help accomplish that, we strive to expose you to what is current in today’s workforce and those applications, operating systems and hardware you will encounter after you leave here. You can accomplish this WITHOUT being tethered to an Ethernet connection. We are the most-wired/wireless campus and we have the awards to prove it! You can work from wherever you want! Additionally, you have the opportunity to seek excellent associate or bachelor degrees, so you are not going to waste your time and money with nothing to show for your effort.

Good things come to those who work hard. I want you to know that each professor you meet in the CIT Department will help you to help yourself be the best that you can possibly be. You have come to the right place for a superior education, now it is up to you to help make it happen. We look forward to you joining us on your adventure of a lifetime.

Professor Roberta Sloan

Welcome to the Computer & Information Technologies Department at Morrisville State College. As part of the School of Business, our mission is two-fold: to prepare you to work with cutting-edge technology and to prepare you to work as a member of a team in a corporate environment. Throughout your course of study, you will be exposed to a mix of theoretical and practical knowledge which will enable you to not only understand technology but to apply it to solve real problems. Information technology is an important tool in the development and operation of a business or organization, so as a student in the CIT Department you will be exposed to a wide range of the newest technologies. As a computer consultant for a major accounting firm, I saw the importance of information technology in every type of organization from the federal government to small privately-held companies; and the CIT faculty, with their unique blend of business and educational experience, will assist you in preparing for a major role in your chosen work environment. Your education is an investment; make it an investment that will benefit you in the long term. Choose a major in the CIT Department and an education which will give you the knowledge and experience you need to get started on a successful career.

The field of Information Technology changes rapidly. It takes a concerted effort to stay ahead of the curve. I joined the faculty at Morrisville State College for many reasons. As a business advisor to Morrisville State, I had seen how well the CIT Department stays ahead of the technology curve. As a manager of information technology projects, systems and personnel, I wanted to contribute to the CIT Department's success in bringing technology to a new generation of students. Finally as a teacher, with a home and a history in the area, I enjoyed the opportunity to give back to my community.

At Morrisville State College you'll find a diverse faculty and staff ready, willing, and able to provide you with a hands-on education in Information Technology and many other areas of study. Our use of laptops, computer laboratories, and advanced networks, both wired and wireless as a integral part of the education process continues to lead the way for educational institutions everywhere.
